1. Friday Night Hang Out Night!

This Friday March 5th will be our IVCF Hangout night! This means that there will be no large group this week. Instead, we encourage you to get together with some friends (both christian and non christian!) and do something fun and exciting! Need some ideas? We have some for you! We are in the process of putting events (like fundraiser perogie dinners.. yumm!) up on our community page on the website. So be sure to check it out at www.ivcfwindsor.org. If you know of something going on or would like something posted be sure to let us know!

2. Large Group Friday March 12

March 12th we will have large group at 6:30pm in Dillon Hall 361. Our speaker for the night will be Dave Swartz- you won’t want to miss what he has to say! Afterwards, we have an exciting Treasure Hunt Social planned!

3. Sharing Night

The large group on Friday March 26th will be our sharing night! Has God been doing some incredible in your life? What have you learned in your faith walk this past semester? Has God opened some doors for you? Whatever God is doing in your life- now is the chance to share it! This is a great time for all of us to hear of how God is working in our community. If you would like to share your story this night, be sure to email us back so we can add you to the list!

4. End of Year Bash!!!

We know it’s early to be talking about the end of the year, but we want YOU there to help us celebrate! Here are the details:

Date: Friday, April 9th

Time: 6:30 pm

Location: Malden Park - this is an amazing location just minutes from the University

Cost: $10

What to bring: Food to share (we’ll have a potluck sign-up sheet soon) and a friend! It’s such a chill evening everyone will feel welcome!

What to expect: A fantastic night of food, fun, games and great tunes! Enjoy the night in your way with your friends…whether it be just enjoy the food and talking, or snapping pictures of friends, or playing a game, or showing off your smooth dance moves, you’re sure to have a good time!

Attire: Be your funky self…dress as you please! Dress up, dress down, we don’t care, just be there!

NOTE: If you can drive, please let us know. Even though the location is close to the U, we still need to drive there.

5. City/Script

Are you ready to understand Jesus and His teachings in a new and relevant way? Do you long to have a faith worth believing in? Do you long to for deep Scripture study, authentic relationships, open discussion and an opportunity to see God in the city and meet Him in His Word? Then City/Script is for you!

A week-long intensive manuscript (inductive) study of the Gospel of Mark (the “script), plus a time to contextualize the Scriptures in an urban setting (the “city”, Toronto!). May 1 - 7, 2010…students from across IVCF chapters throughout Ontario will learn who Jesus is in a powerful and relevant way through this study! Click here for more details.

5. Summer Pledge CHALLENGE!

If you have ever…

- enjoyed our speakers

- gone to a retreat

- had materials at Small Groups

- devoured a snack at any one of our social events or Large Group meetings

- and the list goes on and on…

…then you have blessed by a gift from someone before you!

We know that we are called to be generous and to give gladly and generously, especially to ministries which have a direct impact on our own lives and in our own neighbourhoods!

That all said, we are putting out a Summer Pledge Challenge in which we are asking people to save up over the summer and pledge $50 to the ministry of IVCF Windsor to help it be a blessing to our campus in the coming year.

How does this break down? Well, there are 123 days between the months of May - August. $50 comes up to only $2.85/week or $0.41/day!

We are asking everyone to participant in this challenge because we want to use our resources to help bring the Gospel to the whole campus and we want to invite you to play a part in doing so!

1. Large Group

We will be meeting this Friday, February 26th, at 6:30 in Dillon Hall 361. Our speaker for the night will be local pastor, Ram Krishnamurthy. Be ready to be inspired and challenged by the message that he brings us! Our social is a guy’s/girl’s night! It will begin with a team snowball fortress building competition and snowball fight followed by warming up with hot chocolate and a movie. Be sure to bring your snow gear!

2. FLIP IT

Together we are planning an event in which we can share the Good News at the University of Windsor. For some of you, we know it sounds like a scary thing to do, but it is something that we as Christians are called to do and we are promised the power, guidance, peace, protection, and even the creativity and boldness of the Holy Spirit in order to FLIP IT!

Our event will take place in the CAW student centre March 3rd and 4th. If you aren’t involved with it yet be sure to come on out and support your brothers and sisters in Christ in this amazing opportunity!

3. End of Year Bash!!!

1. “IVCF Hang Out”

This Friday night (Feb. 12th) there is no weekly Large Group meeting planned. “Why?” you may ask. Because IVCF Windsor wishes to encourage you to use this night to do something you love with friends you love who don’t know Jesus yet! It is a time to reach beyond our Christian community and build relationships with others. If you know of something you are doing and wish to invite others to join you and your friends or if you know of something going on in the city that night that might be fun to do, send us an email at ivcf.windsor@gmail.com and we will post it on our Community Page on our website (www.ivcfwindsor.org). Also, be sure to check in on the Community Page every now and then for updates on events happening throughout the area, from concerts to courses, and so much more! If there is something happening in Windsor that you’d like to share with others, send us an email and we’ll post it there for you! This is also a great time to turn to the Contact list if you requested to be put on it!

2. Club Days

As you’ve heard, Club days are tomorrow (thursday) from 10:00 am to 2:00pm. If you’re able to help please email us to let us know your availability, or if you aren’t sure yet feel free to stop by the table tomorrow in the CAW centre!

For some of you, we know it sounds like a scary thing to do, but it is something that we as Christians are called to do and we are promised the power, guidance, peace, protection, and even the creativity and boldness of the Holy Spirit in order to FLIP IT!

If you are ready to do something new, to see your faith grow, to build up our fellowship into a truly witnessing community and more importantly to share the LIFE that is found in Jesus with others on campus…this is for you!!!

5. COIN DRIVE
Candace M. and Christina H. are interested in starting up a coin drive in order to raise money towards World Vision and their program for Nutritional Lunches for 50 hungry children for the month of February, since children can’t learn without proper nutrition. The donations can help build and stock school kitchens and dining halls to provide nutritious lunches to 50 little ones in a rural school for an entire month. It costs $75 to feed 50 children, and this $75 provides $375 worth of nutritional meals there. So, if you see a jar at either or at Large or Small Group, drop in any spare change you have and help make a difference!

6. Aeropostale - Jeans for Haiti
If you have a pair of jeans you wish to donate towards teens in Haiti, bring them to our local Aeropostale store at the mall before February 14th.

7. February 26th - Large Group

Be sure to join us at 6:30 in Dillon room 361 for our Large Group meetng! Pastor Ram will be our speaker and we have an exciting Girls vs Guys social planned!

1. Large Group - Friday, Feb. 5th
This week we are gathering at 6:30 pm in Dillon Hall, Room 361. Brad Watson, who is the head pastor from Lakeshore St. Andrew’s is our guest speaker. Afterwards we’ll be joining forces and creative powers for a fun “Make-a-Movie Night”. We’ll be working in teams and discovering who’s the next Quentin Tarintino as we” come together at the end and enjoy some snacks while we view the imaginative efforts of our friends! If you have a camera that has video capture capability, please bring it and any cables/cards required to view it from a laptop with you on Friday!

February 5th we will have our large group meeting at 6:30. Brad Watson will be our speaker for the evening and we have an awesome social planned- Make A Movie Night! We will all be making movies and then watching them after - so be sure to bring a camera that records and any plugs (or cords, or memory cards) that will be needed to put the video onto a laptop.

3. GP’s

What are you doing this summer?

One of the Core Values of IVCF Canada is to Grow a Missional Commitment. This is to affirm God’s call that all Christians are called to serve Him through their lives and work and to participate in the global mission of the church by praying, giving and serving.

In order to help facilitate opportunities for students to grow in this, we offer Global and Urban Partnerships.

Attached you will see the GPs and UP available to you as a University of Windsor IVCF member for this summer (Central Ontario). Take the time to review the attached and if you feel led to find out more information, contact Susan (our Staff Worker) and she will help guide you through the process.

To begin the process:

1) If there is a partnership of interest, first contact Susan Tarcia (starcia@ivcf.ca) our Windor Staff Worker.

2) Susan will direct you about how you should go about contacting the director of the given trip.

3) Fill out your application and await confirmation of acceptance.

*Deposits are not required until after you have been accepted into the program.

(This is the trip that Susan will be helping to staff. It’s considered a “beginner’s GP” and it is only 15 days long. It’s a great way to get some experience doing ministry in a cross-cultural setting to see if this is something you’d like to pursue further in the future. It is always great to go with people from your own campus!)

1. Friday Night! (Friday January 22nd)

We will be meeting at 6:30 to hear John Thompson (IVCF Windsor Alumni). John Thompson and his wife Soyon are our guest speakers for the evening. They will be sharing about how God called them into the missions’ field in the Himalayas working with an organization called MountainChild. Their message will challenge you to see God’s mission everywhere around you. Come out for a great time of food, fellowship and fun! Our social for the night will be our “Fire and Ice Party!” We have some really great events for this night planned! You may want to bring some warm clothing and boots (in case it gets cold!), but we will be having events indoors as well. Also, in order for this fun event to happen, we need drivers! So please let us know if you can drive! *Our location for large group is TBA, but I will be sending it out as soon as it’s confirmed!

2. Small groups have started/continue to start this week! Each of the groups will meet at the info desk in the CAW student center first and then head over to their area. If you haven’t joined a small group before then now’s the time to do so! They are a great way to study God’s word with others in our community, and to apply what we’ve learned to our lives. This semester we will continue our manuscript study of Luke. If you have been in one before, then you know how awesome they are! Here are the groups we are offering for this semester. If you have a major time conflict with all of them, please let us know and we will do our best to try and change some things around. If you have any questions be sure to email us back!

3. IT’S TIME TO “FLIP IT”

If you were out on Friday night, you heard Susan (our staff worker) challenge us to group to take advantage an opportunity for members of IVCF Windsor to individually and collectively “FLIP IT”, i.e. flip our thinking and actions about reaching our campus for Jesus. She reminded us that we need to be excited for people who will say YES to our invitation to meeting Jesus and not be fearful and/or silent when facing the NOs.

4. IVCF WINDSOR PRAYER & SUPPORT MEETING:

What: A chance to join us with local supporters to hear about the last news of and pray for the needs of our fellowship. Light refreshments will be served. (Note: prayer meeting is usually done by approx. 8:15 pm, so if you can just stay for that time, you are more than welcome!)

The cost is $100 for the conference (This is the University of Windsor student price due to fund-raisers, original price = $120. Your transportation cost will also be covered in the $100 fee) .

Here’s what’s going on this week within our IVCF community!

1. Friday Night Large Group:

When: Friday night, 6:30pm

Where: Dillon Hall 361

Who: Susan Tarcia (IVCF Windsor Staff Worker) is our speaker for the evening. Her title for her message is “FLIP IT.” Come out and be challenged to flip your thinking to come alongside God’s desires. She will be making a special invitation to join with your peers this semester for a truly practical way of living this out together! You don’t want to miss this opportunity!

What Else?: Join us afterwards for our social. This week we will be invarding the Green Bean! Be ready for a fun night of catching up with friends over games, coffee and snacks at the Green Bean (The Green Bean always has amazing food! And their coffee is fair trade!)

2. Small Groups!!

I know many of you are excited to get back into small groups! Be sure to come out this Friday to check out the sign up lists and see what times work for you. We’ve tried really hard this semester to make sure we have groups that are placed throughout the week to best meet everyone needs. If there is no time that works for you, please let us know ASAP and we’ll do out best to figure something out for you. Small Groups will be continuing their study of Luke. They will start next week, with a “get to know your small group” session. This will be an excellent time to plan what your group wants to do on community days etc.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone enjoyed their time off school and is ready to head back to hit the books! What better way to start off the New Year, than with a party?!

This Friday is our “FROST Week Welcome Back Party!” Music, munchies and more! Feel free to bring along some games if you’d like! Kick back and relax for the evening as you reconnect with your friends and meet new ones too! Doors open at 8 pm at 445 Partington. Everyone is welcome and we all know the people make a party good, so bring your friends!

1. This Friday November 27th is our next IVCF out night! This is a great chance for everyone to get together with friends from school, work, IVCF or otherwise! Need some ideas on what to do? Check our website as we will be updating it with events going on in the local area. If you have an event that you would like to be posted please email us back. Remember, we are still building up our community list- email us back if you would like your information on this list so that other people in our group can contact you to make plans etc. We’ll send out a master copy of this list in the next few weeks.

2. Our Coffee Fundraiser is going on this week, Monday- Thursday, 8-3:30pm. If you get the chance, be sure to stop by to say hi! We are still looking for people to help out, specifically on Wednesday from 11:30-12:00 and Thursday 10-12. If you would like to be added to the list please email us back with your times of availability! Remember that this is a great fundraiser to help lower our costs for SHIFT (Winter Retreat).

3.Next Friday- December 4th, is our Christmas Banquet. This formal event will begin at 6:30pm and will be held in Katzman Lounge (In the basement of Vanier).The cost is $25.00 per person, and we ask that you RSVP and hand your money in by November 29th. This means that if you would like to go, you’ll have to email us your reply, and hand your money in at small group or to one of the leadership team members (Andrea, Michelle, Laura, Luke, Kendra, Susan). We will also be having a gift exchange that night- if you would like to participate please bring in a gift that is valued at $5.00 maximum. Finally, we will be having a servant auction, and are looking for services that can be auctioned! Please try to make these services do-able. If you have a service please email us back letting us know. This is a great night to celebrate Christmas coming and the closing of a semester- we hope you can all make it out!

4.The Santa Clause Parade is coming up, and we are coordinating a group of people to go! It is December 5th from 6-8pm. We will meet on campus at Vanier U. Time is TBA. Afterwards, we will head over to the Green Bean to warm up! If you are interested in coming or want to come and can drive, please email us back to let us know, as we need to coordinate rides.

5. Feedback- We are looking for feedback from you! Whether it be about small groups, our format this year, etc. This weekend is our planning weekend for next semester, so please email feedback to us before then if possible!

6. Grinch Night- Stay tuned for upcoming information on our annual night of festive fun!

Weekly Update!

1. Friday November 20th ”Calming the Storms” - a night of scripture study, praise & worship, followed by a fun social event that will take you all over campus! It’s a night you don’t want to miss. Our special guests for the evening are local high school students who we are encouraging in their faith. Be sure to bring the materials that you would normally use for manuscript study!
***NOTE: Start time is 7:00 pm for this evening, and we are meeting in Chrysler Hall North, G133*** (*Please note the time change!)

2. Before you know it, December will be here! This means that our Christmas Banquet is coming up.

Where: Katzman Lounge* Please note the change in location. Katzman Lounge is in the basement of Vanier Hall.

When: 6:30 December 4^th

Cost: $25.00 per person. This is to cover the meal cost which includes chicken, salad, buns, pasta, desert etc. Please plan on handing your money in by November 29th.

Dress: This is a formal event- so be sure to get dressed up!

Additional Information: We will also have a gift exchange that night. If you would like to participate in the exchange, be sure to bring in a gift valued at no more than $5.00. We are also asking that you start thinking of things to auction off in our Servant Auction. It should be something practical that you can actually do for the person. If you have a service to auction off, please email us back letting us know what it is!

RSVP: The deadline to sign up is November 29^th. We will have sign- up sheets at the large group meeting, or you can email us back letting us know of your attendance!

3. Our Coffee Fundraiser will be held November 23^rd to the 26^th, and we are looking for people to sign up to help. On these days we will sell coffee in the CAW Centre, with the proceeds going towards our winter retreat (SHIFT). This is a great way to lower the cost for everyone. There will be a sign up sheet at the next large group if you are interested in helping out or you can email us back letting us know your availability.

4. Friday November 27th is our next IVCF out night! This is a great chance for you to get together and do something fun with people from your small group, school community or otherwise. Want to host an event? Email us back and we’ll pass the word on to other people. Don’t know how to get connected with IVCF people? We’re starting up a community information list. If you’d like to partake, then email us your name, phone number (s), address, program, year etc. and we’ll add it to the list. We have access to your email address, but other people in the group do not. In a few weeks we will send the list out and you’ll have the information you need to get in contact with people.
